Naming your first novel

Linda Holmes has produced a novel (ha ha!) system of ensuring that new authors are able to bring formulaic titles to their new works of fiction.

She argues, or suggests, that all genres have a formula for inventing titles that meet the genre’s requirements. Apparently, this method makes it so much easier for readers to see a title that falls within their usual reading pattern and will easily influence the purchaser to buy.

If you are struggling for a fiction novel title, then go over to her article and see how you should name your work. Those who have left comments suggest examples to make the task for new authors even easier.

Alas, my first fiction novel, Chasing the Will (due April 2012) does not fall into any of the categories that Linda suggests, so I guess I’ll have to settle with my own title, for now, unless anyone can suggest something a little different.
